On 2 December 2021, Anna Alvazzi del Frate, Emile LeBrun, Gergely Hideg, and Christian Ponti presented the session \u201cAssessing the impacts of global firearms instruments\u201d at the 2021 edition of the 24-hr Conference on Global Organized Crime. The session, moderated by Monica Massari, University of Milan, explored practical ideas, methodologies and indicators for assessing to what extent instruments such as the UNTOC and its Firearm Protocol, as well as the UN Programme of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons, are impacting levels of violence at the national, regional and global levels within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Target 16.1. The session also raised important questions about definitions of armed violence, how to incorporate gender into impact evaluations, and the inclusion of victim assistance considerations.<\/p>
